My first product listing and what it represents
Share
I've always loved playing around and creating things. I used to test out different bedroom layouts on a weekly basis, much to my parents' dismay. There was always an artistic element to my school career - art, product design, resistant materials. As I got older, it only got more fun. Finding creative, temporary ways to add joy to somewhat bland rental flats, usually through bold accessories and natural wooden furniture. Buying an actual real life house and filling it with an eclectic mix of new, upcycled and hand-me-down furniture. Painting a bold aztec stamped design in my son's nursery because...my walls!
Yet entering the realm of selling my creations was a whole different ball game. I'd always been told my restyled furniture and homeware was good enough to sell, but I didn't believe it. Would people be disappointed with the products 'in real life'? Would the finishes last? Will people think it's too expensive?
Skip to today. I've thrown caution to the wind and am about to list my first product. A solid wood dressing table box painted brick red with an off-white bone inlay-inspired stencil and distressed brown wax finish.
This red box represents taking a leap of faith. It is also a symbol of not overthinking things. Would people be disappointed with the products in real life? I don't think so. Would the finishes last? Yes, all the prep and finishing was done properly. Will people think it's too expensive? You can't possibly know everyone's budget. There, that's all there needs to be to it.
It also represents perfectly what Out of the Eaves Furniture stands for. Instead of being forgotten in a loft, this box has been brought to life again, without losing any of its character. It's not brand new, box fresh, factory finished. It is an example of playing with colour and designs and highlighting the beauty of natural materials.
So there we have it. A red box is sometimes much more than a red box. And you can now buy it here...
